LIFE: A day as a Qatar Airways Applicant

Five-Star Airline is on a massive recruitment of talents.

Well it's been 2 months since I left Doha because I already consumed almost 6 months of my Visit Visa. So I came back here in Manila to rest and assess again my goals for my career. It was tough finding work in Doha because of the stiff competition with other race.  (My Doha friends know what race they are! :D) Well, I know God has more plans for me and i'm just taking my time and waiting it patiently.

After the holidays, spending time with my relatives in Laguna. It was time to get back to my laptop and search some job openings online. While browsing my Facebook wall, my former teacher share to her wall an advertisement from JS Contractors about the job openings for Qatar Airways. Hold on, I know what are you thinking. Not the picture above is suggesting that I am applying as a flight attendant. Qatar Airways Group will be doing a recruitment event from January 21-23 at Manila and January 24-25 at Cebu. So I checked some of the openings and I saw a position suitable to my career.

Time to shine for the event

Fast forward, I sent my resume to the above mentioned agency and several days I got a SMS that I should report to there office and bring several documents. I report to the office on January 11 at 10:00 am. That time I was on a mad dash just to go to there office on time. I wasn't expecting that when I arrived, there are a lot of people already ahead of me. So my hopes vanished because they will never entertain me even though I got there early. So I went home and just look for other openings. However, Saturday that week someone from there office SMS me if I'm still interested so I replied and went back to there office and the rest is history.

Fast forward again, I was confirmed to go to the event last January 21 at Pan Pacific Manila. I was scheduled for the afternoon session. When I arrived, again the number of people became tripled. I guess Qatar Airways is on a massive recruitment of talents, not only here but all over the world it serves. QR group is divided in 4 event halls of the hotel namely, Doha International Airport (DIA), Qatar Duty Free, Qatar Airways Technical group and Qatar Aviation Catering Company. I was applying for DIA as a Technical Services Engineer.

I told to myself, it will be a long day for me and for the other applicants. As I fill up my form, I saw my batch mate in Mapua and also applying to the same position. So a few chit chats and finished filling up my forms. Our names are called for the first level of recruitment, written EXAM! So I said ok I'll just answer my questions using my stock knowledge left on my brain. Taking an exam is just answering an entrance exam for a university. After that, we just took a lunch break and came back again to the hotel for a one on one interview.

As we are waiting for our turn, the HR director told us some of the benefits if we are chosen to be on board to there company. My jaw dropped when I hear yearly round-trip tickets with 90% and 50% discounts when we avail it, free accommodation and other benefits. From that time I hear, I just seat back and patiently waiting for my turn. I told myself, they need me!

When my name was called, I just walked confidently and faced the interviewer on one of the cubicles. The interview just took 7 minutes just describing myself. Well, it will go to my history book for the fastest interview I had taken so far. And the recruiter told me that my papers will be forwarded to a certain department that I am more suitable. So, I went home happy and fulfilled and just waiting for 3 weeks for the call.

That was it, a day as a Qatar Airways Applicant.
